Increasing evidence indicates an intimate link between neurodegenerative and cardiometabolic diseases  For example, associations between cholesterol metabolism and the development of Alzheimer’s disease have been demonstrated. Correlations have also been made between the insulin signaling pathway and cognitive function.

Nuclear receptors, due to their important role in inflammatory and metabolic pathways, represent particularly interesting therapeutic targets, at the crossroads of neurodegenerative pathologies and metabolic disorders.
