Prof. Edward Rubin

University of California, Berkeley – USA

Professor Edward Rubin holds a MD and PhD in biophysics from the University of Rochester. After clinical residency and a fellowship in Medical Genetics at UC San Francisco, he became a research associate at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. In 1988, he moved to the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, and became Head of the Genome Sciences Department in 1998. His research includes the development of animal models for a variety of conditions including Sickle Cell Anemia, asthma, Down's Syndrome and different forms of heart disease. The Rubin lab is currently focused on two interrelated areas: assigning biological function to high throughput genomic data; and addressing hypotheses relevant to Human cardiovascular disease using mouse genetics.
